Maureen Wong, Acupuncture

Maureen is an holistic healer with many years experience in energy work. She uses her scientific and spiritual background to help patients achieve a state of wellness, peace, calm and balance in their lives. Maureen excels in helping people with their emotional and physical imbalance; setting up the mind and body to heal from within.

Acupuncture’s goal is to create healthy body function by restoring the natural circulation of energy or life force, known in Chinese as Qi [pron: chi]. Acupuncture aims to release blockages in the body, relieve symptoms and help reduce need for medication and/or surgery.

How might acupuncture help me?

  • Treating specific disorders to relieve symptoms and help reduce complications and recurrence.

  • Chinese medicine (including acupuncture) is an effective form of preventive medicine because it helps detect and treat energy imbalances before they lead to disease.

  • Maintenance treatment of long term problems: to help reduce the need for medication and/or surgery.

After your first treatment:
you may notice health changes e.g. better sleep, digestion and improvement in energy. Some people respond quickly while others gradually improve.

What may be used during a treatment:
Fine needles, electro acupuncture, Cupping, acupressure, moxibustion and counselling.

Needle stimulation arouses energy within the body, which travels along invisible electrical pathways known as ‘meridians’. [Meridians are like ‘rivers’ that nourish the tissues, blood and organs]. 'Locks' are unblocked to help the body’s internal organs correct imbalances in their digestion, absorption and energy production activities, and in circulation of blood and energy through the body to restore good health. Yin & Yang are balanced.

As it is the person who is treated rather than the disease, a professional acupuncturist makes a diagnosis and treats you on an individual basis.

General scientific viewpoint:
The acupoints stimulate the nervous system to release chemicals in the muscles, spinal cord and brain. These chemicals will either change the experience of pain, or they will trigger the release of other chemicals and hormones which influence the body’s own internal regulating system.

Acupuncture has become an extremely popular alternative to traditional western medicine, but is also used as a complementary therapy.

Ear Points:
The ears are like little maps of the body and can be used exclusively with acupuncture to treat various parts of the body. There are points on the ear which can be stimulated to help improve addictive/chronic problems – e.g. smoking, obesity and sleep disorders, etc. There are little studs which can be inserted, and left in situ for several days, to be stimulated by the patient when experiencing the need to smoke, eat etc., reducing the inclination/craving.

Reflexology re-establishes balance (good health) by stimulating points on the feet which affect all body organs and tissues.
There are many thousands of nerve endings on the feet which relate to areas all over the body. By stimulating these points on the feet we can affect the whole body and re-create good health.

Health is balance at all levels - physical, mental and emotional

Maureen has been practicing energy healing since 1986 and works holistically to balance the energies of Mind Body & Spirit.
